About

The Association of Irish Forestry Consultants (AIFC) was established in 1997 and represents the forest consultancy profession in Ireland. Membership is nationwide with a client base of over 1,500 forest owners. The role of the professional forester is now recognised internationally as being critical in the proper management and development of any forestry investment. AIFC Foresters are engaged in all aspects of forestry and provide a wide range of services and work directly for farmers and forest owners.

AIFC are represented on Minister Pippa Hackett’s newly formed Forestry Policy Group and are concerned with issues relating to all aspects of forestry in Ireland.

Consultants AIFC members come from various backgrounds in forestry. Some of us have worked for the State forestry sector, others have worked for private forestry companies and some in forest education and research. We have pooled our experience and by drawing on the better aspects of our previous careers, listening to our customers and trying hard to be creative. We have succeeded in attracting satisfied customers all over Ireland.

Increasing numbers of plantation owners are engaging our members at the post-maintenance grant stage, to manage their plantations right up to first thinning and beyond. AIFC members provide harvesting expertise/services at all stages of the rotation for both conifers and broadleaves.

AIFC are formally affiliated to the Society of Irish Foresters (SIF), the representative body for the forestry profession in Ireland, now responsible for administering the new CPD Scheme for the Forest Service. Raising standards in Irish Forestry has been a fundamental part of the AIFC from the very start and our Meetings and field days attended are included for CPD points.

Membership is confined to Company Directors and Sole Traders, all professionally qualified and experienced in forestry. To become a member of the AIFC applicants must satisfy strict criteria regarding qualifications, experience and professional indemnity insurance. We are continuing to grow our membership base and invite new applicants to join.
